Snapshot – Windfall

I go for a walk in the mornings. Leftover habit from our last dog in Sydney who trained us to walk first thing in the morning and in the evenings as soon as we get home from work. I forgo the evening walk to avoid heat exhaustion but it’s still nice in the mornings. As a result I discovered these two beauties that had been put out with the rubbish. They are really beautiful chairs and the wooden frame is in tip top condition. I...

Project – Restored bookshelves

I love how these restored bookshelves turned out in my 3R’s project for March. I have to say it wasn’t easy, I made a lot of mistakes on this DIY upcycle project and learnt a lot as a result. The bookshelves were veneer on wood. Most of the veneer seemed to be in good condition but some of it was peeling away or broken.  My first step was to pull away the veneer that had lifted off.  This was fairly easy. The...

16 creative ways to restore and repurpose chairs

Chair makeover inspiration anyone? These are 16 of the most inspired, creative and innovative projects I’ve come across online. I’ve restored a chair or 3 in my past. I’m about to embark on a new chair restoration project and was looking for some inspiration. Project – Trio of restored tables

It’s February and its time to reveal my second 3Rs project. This time it’s a straight forward restoration of a trio of coffee tables.  There are two small square tables and a longer rectangular table in this project. They were looking very tired with scratches, burns and watermarks on the finish. Two of the finished tables have been placed in the living room of the new apartment. The third one has gone into the...

Side table restoration

This side table is sanded and ready for varnishing. I really wanted to make this into a games table with a chess board painted in the middle. However, on second thought, the table has a lovely parquetry type design to it and it would be a shame to paint it. This is what it looked like before I started working on it. It was scratched and burnt in one corner, probably an unwatched candle. It’s going to feel brand new once a few...

Leaf me alone stools

In 2016, I’ve embarked on a project to restore, recycle or repurpose (dubbed the 3Rs) at least one item a month.  My 3Rs Project for January are these pretty  ‘Leaf me alone’ Barstools. We had these stools in our kitchen for the last 10 years. They had become pretty grimy and they would have looked pretty shabby in their shiny new home. Just compare the ‘before’ shot below with the end product...
